Wildlife, Nature Art, Bird Painting “GOLDEN HOODED TANAGER” The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

This is an original colored pencil drawing Frosted Mylar. The Golden Hooded Tanager is an impressive bird. The colors are vibrant and ae amazing to see flash in front of you. They are small and quick but easy to see because of their coloration. This drawing was done from my art tours in Costa Rica.

Botanical Fine Art Painting, "PRETTY PINK TULIP" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

There is nothing more feminine and pretty than a graceful pink tulip swaying the breeze! I love to grow tulips and this one was a favorite because of the delicate pink color. When I paint a flowers portrait I like to make the flower come alive on the paper. I want the viewer to see it dancing graceful on the paper.

Wildlife, Owl Fine Art Painting,Nature Art “Hawk Owl” The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

Surnia ulula is a non-migratory owl that usually stays within its breeding range of the Northern Hemisphere from the USA into Newfoundland. During harsh winters when food is scarce it sometimes travels southward. It is one of the few owls that is not nocturnal, being active only during the day. It’s size and the fact that it flies during the day has made many think it is a hawk, the the common name; Hawk Owl.

Wildlife Art, Nature , Frog "MASKED TREE FROG" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

Smilisca phaeota is a fairly large tree frog of the NeoTropics. It is active at night during the wet season. You can often hear the males calling to the females during the mating season. The frog is sometime referred to as the Camouflage Frog as it has the ability to change from green to brown. It can be found in shallow temporary pools of water. Females lay their eggs in puddles of water which accumulate, covering the top of the water with a film of up to 2,000 eggs. Tadpoles develop quickly in the temporary pools and puddles.

Botanical Fine Art Painting, "GREEN CHICKS AND HENS" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

Hens and chicks are a favorite in my garden. I love they way they group and readily multiply as they spill over rocks and create a wonderful ground cover. Here I played with variation in mixing greens. It was interesting to see how many shades of green were in such a small section. I magnified the drawing to give it impact and stand out. Such small things are often overlooked.

Botanical Fine Art Painting, Butterfly,Nature "PURPLE VANDA" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

I love purple and I love orchids! I moved to Florida in 2011 after living in New Jersey for 50 years. The climate in Florida is semi-tropical and orchids literally grow in, on and around trees! They are super fun to paint, ranging in all sizes, bizarre shapes and fantastic colors. In this painting I decided to show how this Vanda orchid grows off a tree branch. The branch was done in graphite so as not to distract from the beautiful flower. I couldn't resist putting in a butterfly just for even more fun!

Wildlife Art, Nature , Frog "TROPICAL LEAF FROG" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

Cruziohyla calcarifer is an uncommon treefrog, sparsely found throughout low and mid elevation forest from Honduras through north western Ecuador. It lives in humid forest, and breeds in water filled tree-hollows or stumps. Encounters with this frog in the rainforest are uncommon, and only a few groups exist in captivity, primarily within the confines of zoos and institutions within the US and Europe. At first glance they look like the Red-eyed Tree Frog, but they are larger and have pale lavender-grey eyes with a yellow rim. They spread their webbed feet when jumping making it possible to glide for distances.
