Wildlife Art, Nature , Frog "MASKED TREE FROG" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe
Smilisca phaeota is a fairly large tree frog of the NeoTropics. It is active at night during the wet season. You can often hear the males calling to the females during the mating season. The frog is sometime referred to as the Camouflage Frog as it has the ability to change from green to brown.
It can be found in shallow temporary pools of water. Females lay their eggs in puddles of water which accumulate, covering the top of the water with a film of up to 2,000 eggs. Tadpoles develop quickly in the temporary pools and puddles.
